Police officer shot and killed
IT has been confirmed that the woman police officer that was fatally shot in the head in Cato Ridge on Tuesday, 13 May was a Westville SAPS officer.
According to Lt Col Tommy Stewart, of the Westville SAPS, the incident has shocked both family and friends of the officer. “The whole station is traumatised by the news,” said Stewart.
Mike Myers, chairman of the Westville CPF, said, “It was totally unexpected. She was well spoken, vibrant and always full of smiles. It is a big loss to the force as she was dedicated to her job. She will be sorely missed. I send my condolences to her family, friends and colleagues,” said Myers.
Stewart reported that the deceased police officer, who lives in the Bonela area, was believed to be driving home with a friend at the time of the incident.
Police spokesman, Col Jay Naicker, said that it is alleged the deceased officer then became embroiled in an argument on Raymond Road.
“It is further alleged that she drew her firearm and opened fire on 13 May at about 5.30pm. She died of a fatal gunshot wound to the head,” said Naicker.
Derrick Banks, of ER24, said paramedics responded to the scene and she was later declared dead at the scene.
The incident is being investigated by detectives at Cato Manor SAPS. No foul play is suspected at this stage.
