Emotional week for SA CAN duty manager

SA CAN was kept busy with numerous emergency calls.

SA CAN duty/case manager, Corné Broodryk said that his week of duty from 5 to 12 May was an “emotionally busy one”.

They received a number of calls about runaway children, who were all found and returned home and a few incidents of hijackings.

” I must say very well done to SA CAN members, two of whom pressed their AAA Buttons when they heard screaming from down the road and both times, the incidents turned out to be hijackings. Because of their fast response, we were able to alert authorities within record time and arrests were made. Well done!” said Broodryk.

Calls also came from all over the country, including Durban, Cape Town and Johannesburg in regards to medical emergencies and in each case, ambulances were dispatched. There were five motor vehicle accidents, and four calls to certify deceased.

“These are very traumatic moments for family and friends and our condolences go out to each of them.”

A few calls came through for domestic disturbances and Metro Police were dispatched and one call for trauma counselling.

“Please remember that there are a number of people we can connect you to for help. You are never alone and help is just one push of your AAA Button away.”
