Warmbacks celebrate 50 years of happy marriage
Windsor Crescent residents Brian and Barbara Warmback celebrates their 50th year anniversary.
THE Warmbacks who celebrated their 50th anniversary on Friday 6 May believes that the respect they have for one another is what kept their love strong.
Barbara and Brian met on a blind date through a mutual friend on 11 November 1986 and got married at St Alphege on 9 May 1964.
They celebrated their big day by renewing their wedding vows at the St Agnes Church and had a family dinner. On Sunday 11 May they had lunch with friends and family.
The couple said they were attracted to each other on their first date.
Barbara said on their first date she waited two hours for Brian and she thought she was stood up.
The two love birds were both brought up in Pietermaritzburg and moved to Durban six weeks after they were married
“Because of my work for the 13 years we moved around a lot,” said Brian.
“After that we settled in Westville where we spent 30 years of our lives,”
Barbara said they both had mutual feelings as they had same interests and values.
“We have a happy marriage and I believe that if you are happy in your marriage everything else follows. We respect one another very much, respect is a very big thing,” she said.
Brian said if people want to stay married for a long time, they should always keep the romance going and a man must be a gentleman.
“You must buy your wife flowers regularly and open the door for her.
Brian and Barbara who are now retired said they spend their time watching cricket, taking a walk, travelling, looking after their grandchildren, meeting friends for coffee and Brian is involved in church work.
They were blessed with four children, two girls and boys and five grandchildren.
