Cable theft thwarts school concert

Wendon Academy's concert has been postponed due to cable theft.

THE much awaited “Wow Wendon Rocks” concert was put on hold after Wendon Academy was left in the dark because of cable theft.

The concert, which started on Thursday evening, had to be postponed to Tuesday afternoon.

Senior Head of Department at Wendon Academy, Surè Gooding said this is very inconvenient as the pupils were looking forward to perform for their parents and friends.

“This happened this morning. The matter was reported to the municipality who said the power will not be restored in the next 24 hours because there are procedures that need to be followed.

“This cable theft has left us in darkness. We are trying to keep the children busy with quizzes and puzzles.

“Our secretary had to go to her house to type a letter that will be given to parents, after that she will have to find a place to photocopy the letter for all the pupils,” said Gooding.

The power cut has not only affected the concert but Gooding said their hall was booked for a function on Saturday and now the people who booked it have to find a new venue.

Part of the Westville North area was affected.
