Striking workers hit the Westmead area this morning, prompting calls for caution from local community watches.
Reports received from the South African Community Crime Watch reveal that although no violent reports have been received, the police have been following the protestors to ensure a safe march.
Residents have been warned to be very careful when driving in and around the area. The protestors are allegedly carrying sticks and stones and in a some places violence has been reported, with one report claiming a truck allegedly stoned in Westmead.
Numsa workers embarked on a protected wage strike on Tuesday, demanding a 12 per cent wage increase and a ban on labour brokers.
