By-elections draw new voters

Ward 18 residents have until 9pm tonight to cast their vote for the next councillor.

WITH Ward 18 by-elections upon us, voters throughout the area flocked to their relevant voting stations to make their deciding mark.

At the Cowies Hill Community Hall voting station, more than 150 residents had made their mark before 9am this morning.

The Highway Mail interviewed two first time ward election voters at the station. “It is our first time voting in a ward election and I believe it is our civil responsibility to do so,” said Jane Crankshaw.

Another resident, Lee Moon said, “I am voting to help ensure that I am represented by people who care about my community.”

Voting stations will be open until 9pm tonight. Residents are encouraged to take along their valid green, bar-coded ID. If you are uncertain about where you can vote, SMS your ID number to 32810, which is an IEC number. You will then receive a SMS stating where you are required to vote.
