UPDATE: Wyebank pipe project back on track

Ward 19 councillor Bheki Mvubu responds to allegations from the Wyebank camp site residents.

Work on the Wyebank pipe project blocked by angry residents yesterday has resumed today.

Residents who complained about service delivery in the area burnt tyres in the middle of the road yesterday, saying that they were tired of the empty promises from Ward 19 councillor, Bheki Mvubu.

Some school pupils had to walk to school as vehicles could not travel on Wyebank Road.

Responding to these allegations, Mvubu said the work is continuing as the people who were striking were misinformed.

“Firstly, this is not my contract and it is not my job to hire people.

“About electricity, those people still need to relocate as that is the school sites.

“I was not even a councillor when they were first put in that place.

Communication liaison officer, Lundi Khaya confirmed that everything is back to normal.

“The councillor came and spoke to the people and it turned out that there are more than six people who were employed in that area,” said Khaya.
