Pupils reach out to HACT
The pupils at Cliffdale Primary School recently made a donation of non-perishable goods and clothing to the local NPO.
THE pupils at Cliffdale Primary School recently embarked on a charity drive for the Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust.
The Hammarsdale Police started a safety committee at the school to create awareness about crime, child abuse and drugs and help them to keep away from the social ills in society. Keeping to this programme, they hosted a child protection week at the school and the pupils were encouraged to learn to give, share and care for others that are the same age as them and are in need of help.
“The children that attend the school are from townships and low income households but they were still able to donate the little that they had,” said Mogie Pillay, HOD for the foundation phase at Cliffdale Primary School.
The children collected about R1000 worth of grocery items, that included non-perishable foods and toiletries and two bags of clothing.
Sibusiso Mthethwa, the education manager at the Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust, said the bags of clothing that were donated will be given to the poor communities that are directly affected by the HIV/AIDS pandemic. The food and non-perishable goods will be given to families in the upper highway area. “This donation means a lot to us and it shows us that we are not alone in the fight against the disease. To see young pupils showing their support for our organisation is a huge inspiration,” said Sibusiso.
