Woman dies after 100m plunge off Montaseel Mountain

A woman died after her car plunged off the top of the mountain.

A woman tragically died after her vehicle plunged 100m over the edge of the Montaseel Mountain on Wednesday, 13 August.

Reports indicate that the woman was alone in the vehicle when she drove over the cliff face.

Netcare 911 rescue unit, SAPS air wing and rescue, the fire department and other services arrived at the scene and had to use rescue gear to get to the wreckage. After triaging, they found the woman, in her 40s, had tragically died on impact.

” SAPS search and recovery placed the body onto a specialised stretcher and airlifted her back to the top of the mountain. The body was then taken to a local government mortuary for further investigation,” said Chris Botha, media liaison for Netcare Limited.
