Fire prompts pollution investigation

Firefighters battled thick smoke and and roaring flames when a trucking depot caught alight in the Northdene area on Friday.

It is believed the fire was started by a veld fire which quickly spread in Friday’s extreme wind conditions. Residents reported hearing explosions when the fire broke out.

According to a report on  Pinetown SA CAN, the fire has prompted environmentalists to launch a full-scale investigation into the fire, and eThekweni will also conduct its own investigation of the site, where rusting trailers  dumped tyres are said to have fuelled the inferno.
