Dashal is an all round star
Kloof High School's SPAR Star of the Month - September 2014.
Dashal Naidoo is Kloof High School’s SPAR Star of the Month and in spite of only being in her second year at high school, she has many achievements under her belt.
At the annual prize giving ceremony, Dashal was awarded academic colours for maintaining an aggregate above 85 per cent in Grade 8. She was also described as a mean machine on the sports field. In her Grade 8 year she represented Kloof High School in the U14A indoor hockey team, the U14A outdoor hockey team, the U14A soccer team and participated in touch rugby. Dashal also represented KZN in the U14A inter provincial hockey tournament and captained the KZN U14A soccer team at a soccer tournament. She has also played womens’ club hockey for the Thomas More Hockey Club. At the annual Kloof High School Evening of Excellence Dashal was awarded the trophy for outdoor hockey player of the year as well as soccer player of the year. She was also named as Kloof High School’s Junior Sportswoman of the Year.
This year, Dashal has maintained her high academic standard by achieving an aggregate of 85 per cent and 82 per cent for the first two terms. She represented Kloof High School at the recent Eskom Science Expo where she received a silver medal for her project. For her award-winning project, Dashal decided to design and build a magnetic accelerator. Her fascination for roller coasters led her to investigate the use of magnets and the manner in which they are used to propel an object forward. Dashal was further rewarded for her project when she heard that she had been selected for the Young Scientists National Competition in Johannesburg from 7 to 10 October.
On the sporting front this year, Dashal has represented Kloof High School’s U16A outdoor hockey team, the U16A indoor hockey team, has been in the athletics team for sprints (100m and 200m), and has captained the U15A soccer team. She represented KZN at the Interprovincial Hockey Tournament ( U16A) and received school honours as a result. She was also selected for the U15 KZN Soccer squad and played outdoor hockey for the Kearsney Hockey Club in the womens’ second division.
