Rape accused father back in court

The 30-year-old fahter who pleaded guilty of raping his seven-year-old daughter is due to be sentenced in court today, but court proceedings have been halted due to an outstanding report.

FOR the first time since his arrest, the father who pleaded guilty to the sexual abuse and rape of his seven-year-old daughter cried as he sat in court.

He was back in Pinetown Magistrate’s Court again on Tuesday 30 September for his sentencing, which was postponed to Monday 20 October.

His estranged wife told Highway Mail that he was due in court today for his sentencing, but added court proceedings were halted due to an outstanding report from a social worker. She said today was also the first time since his arrest that he had shown any form of remorse.

The 30-year-old father stands accused of repeatedly raping and sexually abusing his daughter since last year.

According to the 29-year-old mother, her daughter spoke out regarding the sexual abuse on Friday 8 August.

She thanked Westville Junction Pick n Pay, Bluff Meat Supply Springfield, Open Door Crisis Care Centre and the many friends, family and the public who have helped them since the father’s arrest.
