Brazen criminals hit Highway

Numerous crimes have been reported throughout the Highway area in the past week.

TWO brazen armed robbers held up a Pinetown resident after they jumped over the wall of his property last Thursday morning.

Blue Security operations manager, Brian Jackson, said the two robbers, one armed with a knife and the other with a gun, had held up the Davidson Road resident at 10.48am. “Fortunately, there were no injuries. The robbers fled in the resident’s gold Subaru with a laptop, a modem, a television, a wallet containing cash and bank cards, and a remote for the property gate,” he said. Pinetown SAPS attended the scene of the crime.

Jackson said that in a separate incident a motorist was hijacked in Shepstone Road in New Germany outside a business premises at 6.10am on Thursday.

“Three men armed with guns held up the motorist at the gate of the property and hijacked his grey Audi A4. There were no injures and the case was handed over to the police who attended the scene,” he said.

In a third brazen contact crime reported in the Highway area, a Westville-based domestic worker was mugged by three armed men in Kinloch Avenue. They stole her cellphones and cash.

Jackson said there had also been a string of housebreakings and thefts reported in the Highway area over the past week. “In Gillitts, thieves fished out a handbag through a pet flap in the kitchen door of the house. Cash was stolen out of the bag, which our reaction officer later recovered on the property,” he said.

“In another housebreaking incident in Gillitts, burglars removed a window to break in and steal cash and clothing,” he said. A slew of other crimes tore through the Highway area and thieves fled with items ranging from televisions and electronic goods, to a gate, a ladder, a lawnmower and clothes off a washing line. “We urge residents to be vigilant, especially when leaving and arriving home and to report any suspicious activity to both the police and their security company. One of the best defences against crime is to be security conscious and always alert to your surroundings, as this removes the element of surprise,” he concluded.
