SPCA on standby for Diwali fireworks

The Kloof and Highway SPCA is geared up for the Diwali fireworks and has urged residents to contact its offices in case of an emergency.

THE Kloof and Highway SPCA is geared up for Diwali festivities tonight (Wednesday, 22 October) and tomorrow (Thursday, 23 October).

The society said its offices in Village Road, Kloof will remain open on both nights, but added it depends on how busy it gets.

Residents are urged to contact the Kloof and SPCA on its office number: 031 764 1212 or on the after hours number: 073 335 9322. The office line will remain open if it proves to be a busy Diwali. The after hours number remains on 24/7.

Last year the Kloof and Highway SPCA admitted 28 dogs and three cats.

The SPCA received eight calls about lost animals that had been found and five reports of missing pets. Thirteen dogs were handed in as unwanted for various reasons, such as the owner had too many animals or could not afford to keep them, which added to the SPCA’s already stretched capacity.
