The Robin Hood Foundation as joined forces with The Inanda Dog project to launch the ‘Wag-a-Tail’ initiative.
On 26 November, The Foundation will visit the Botha’s Hill community to hand out Gogo bags and distribute animal food to pets in need.
Founder of the RHF, Cindy Norcott was the guest speaker at a fundraising breakfast for Jenny Konigkramer who runs the Inanda Dog Project and was touched by Jenny’s story about how she goes into the Botha’s Hill and Embo townships to feed and help the emaciated and injured dogs that roam the area.
“Each and every time we visit the townships on our Projects, we notice how many starving and injured dogs there are, either roaming the streets or loyally following behind their ‘masters’. A sad reality to those of us who treat our pets like our babies, our children. For years now, we’ve been wondering what we could do for these animals,” said Kim Griffith Jones, RHF co-ordinator.
She added, “We at Robin Hood, feel very strongly those that do not have voices, and have undertaken to help collect as much dog-food as we possibly can, and go into the townships and help Jenny to feed these neglected animals at the same time as providing a Gogo bag of food for the families in the area.”
Royal Canin has already responded to their appeal with donations of dog food, offers of manpower on the day and distribution of flyers to the vets and pet shops they supply in order to grow the awareness for teh campaign.
‘’I don’t think the public realise the amazing work which Jenny Konnigkramer does. She and her assistant go into rural areas on a daily basis and take much needed dog food, deworming tablets, dog bowls, blankets and invaluable advise for the pet owners,’’ said Kim.
The public is urged to help by donating tins of dog food or a bag of dog pellets. The drop off points for the dog food are Broadway Pharmacy in Durban North, Pro-Appointments in Westway Office Park, Chilli Source Design in Kloof and Wool ‘n Weave in Hillcrest.
