M13 sinkhole causes chaos

Motorists are warned of a sinkhole forming on the M13 heading from Pinetown to Durban, just past the Blair Atholl Road off ramp.

THE formation of a sinkhole on the M13 heading from Pinetown to Durban has many motorists worried.

According to local councillors, Bruce Sutcliffe and Warren Burne, the sinkhole is almost five meters in size, about two meters on the verge and another three meters in the road’s slow lane.

“When you stand on the verge and look through the hole you can see all the way to the other side of the sinkhole on the road. We believe the sinkhole was formed as a result of a blocked drain on the grass patch in the centre of the highway,” Sutcliffe said.

Burne added that he got a call from a Westville resident late on Monday night (10 November).

“I could not go out at the time, but Bruce was at the scene at about 7pm. I arrived at about 7.30pm. Westville’s Metro Police offices put up traffic cones to warn motorists of the sinkhole,” Burne said.

The Department of Transport was on its way to the scene.
