‘Brave victim’ chased after robber

A Pinetown 'screwdriver' robber was convicted and sentenced to 15 years.

THE Pinetown Regional Court convicted and sentenced Mthokozisi Ngcobo (29) to 15 years’ imprisonment for robbery on Thursday.

Cst Phindile Radebe, Pinetown SAPS communications officer, said it is alleged that on August 12 last year at about 4.20pm the victim was stuck in traffic while driving along Chancery Lane and Bamboo Lane in Pinetown.

“Ngcobo approached the victim and held a screwdriver to his neck. He took his cellphone and wallet and fled the scene on foot.

“The brave victim ran after him with a taser, and Ngcobo was apprehended with the help of the community.

“The accused was arrested with the screwdriver still in his possession, and the stolen items were recovered,” said Radebe.

The accused appeared in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court and was denied bail. After making several appearances in court the accused was convicted and sentenced.
