New station commander willing to go the distance

Hillcrest SAPS welcomes new station commander.

COL Bafana Ndlovu, Hillcrest SAPS’s newly-appointed station commander, wishes to have a good working relationship with the station staff and various stakeholders.

Ndlovu, who started working in 1986, has been in charge of various police stations since first being appointed station commander at Impendle police station in 1997.

He started working as a police constable at the Pongola police station after training in Hammanskraal.

Ndlovu said it was his father’s wish for him to become a policeman. “Growing up, we were taught to respect our elders and their wishes, as they only wanted the best for us,” he said.

Ndlovu has worked in 21 police stations in KZN and Gauteng since he began his journey as a police officer 28 years ago. He climbed up through the police ranks and has worked in a charge office, a crime prevention unit and a detective unit, and has also been a training officer.

From 2001 to 2013 he worked in Gauteng.

He described himself as a man who is always up for new challenges. “I was a vispol commander at the Inanda police station before I was appointed by the province to Hillcrest, and I had no objections as this area has a diverse community with different cultures.

“I urge the community, neighbourhood watches, CPFs, security companies, businessmen, ward councillors, amakhosi and Izinduna to work together with us.

“We all need one another and to work together to fight crime in Hillcrest and all the surrounding areas,” he said.

Ndlovu, who resides in Durban North, is a proud husband and father to three children – two girls and a boy. Apart from his work, he also runs the Comrades Marathon. “I love leading a healthy lifestyle and I love to exercise. This year I will be running my sixth Comrades Marathon,” said Ndlovu.
