Young people gather for a good cause

80 young people who were part of the peacebuilding programme collected 13 bin bags filled with litter at the Paradise Valley Nature Reserve.

FROM February 26 to March 1 each year, the Bahá’ís around the world celebrate Ayyám-i-Há. This translates means “extra days” or “intercalary days”. The Bahá’í calendar has 19 months, each with 19 days equalling 361 days. The four extra days are days of gift giving, fellowship and charity before the month of fasting.

On Saturday, February 28, young people took part in the peace-building programmes sponsored by the Bahá’í Faith in eThekwini.

They gathered at Paradise Valley Nature Reserve to do service for the community and enjoy some time out of the city and townships.

KZN Inter Religious Council representative for the Bahá’í Faith, Hailey Simanyene Fudu, said more than 80 participants broke into teams and hiked down to the waterfall, after some prayers and songs about peace, collecting litter.

“The team collected 13 bags filled with litter. Food for Life Children’s Projects provided lunch,” she said.

Fudu advised people to take a bin bag if hiking down the beautiful waterfall to collect what they can.

“If we all do our part, we can restore our reserves to their more perfect and pristine beauty. Every pair of hands counts,” she said.

She wished the Bahá’í community all the best during their month of fasting.
