Girl (8) raped while waiting for school bus

Her alleged rapist is still at large.

A local school is tightening security after a Grade 2 pupil was allegedly raped while waiting to be transported from school.

The eight-year-old girl is receiving counselling after the traumatic experience, which was reported to have  happened last week Friday outside Kranskloof Primary School.

It is alleged that the child was left behind when the school bus came to fetch other children. An unidentified man lured her to his house, where he raped her.

Principal of the school, Thokozani Gabela, said this came as a shock to the school. “Although we do not have the exact details, we have reported the matter to the Department of Education. There are social workers that are dealing with this matter. From now on, children will wait for their transport inside the classrooms,” said Gabela.

He urged school bus drivers to make sure that all the children are in the bus before they leave. No  arrests have been made and police are still investigating.
