Dagga plantation unearthed

A Malvern SAPS officer, thanks to a community member, destroyed a massive dagga plantation in the Nirvana Hills area recently.

AN open field filled with dagga plants was discovered by Malvern SAPS officers in the Nirvana Hills area recently.

Spokesman for the station, W/O Radhika Marimuthu, said on Thursday, 19 March the station commander, Lt Col Valarine Reddy, Capt Patricia Koobair and Cst Gilford Parella found the plantation after receiving a tip-off from a community member.

“The officers then uprooted the trees and confiscated them. Before the removal of the trees, Lt Col Reddy and Capt Koobair had kept covert surveillance of the premises for a while,” added W/O Marimuthu.

Lt Col Reddy said the operation was a success thanks to the community involvement, which ensured the plantation was destroyed.

No arrests were made.
