Highway College teacher laid to rest

Highway College teacher, Mary Peel, died on Saturday, 4 April.

MARY Peel, a life sciences and consumer studies teacher at Highway College, died suddenly during the recent school holidays on Saturday, 4 April.

Kubie Rajoo, a educator at the school, said Mary was a dedicated teacher who loved what she taught, the children she taught, the teachers with whom she taught and the school at which she taught.

Mary, in turn, was greatly loved by her pupils and colleagues and will be greatly missed by them.

She arrived at Highway College in 2007 and was proud of the 100 per cent pass rates her pupils achieved regularly. She taught Grades 10 to 12. She was also the school’s first aid officer and participated keenly in the school’s extra-curricular programme.

Mary also enjoyed reading, cooking and gardening when she was off duty. She is survived by her husband, Michael, and her children, Shaun, Caitlin and Matthew.
