Pupils can’t stop the beat in Broadway musical
Westville Boys' High School's musical production, 'You Can't Stop The Beat', is a show for the whole family and should not be missed.
DON’T miss the opportunity to see award-winning dancers, Keegan Barnes from Westville Boys’ High School and Jenna Moodie from Westville Girls’ High School in the Boys’ High latest production, ‘You Can’t Stop the Beat’.
Jenna and Keegan have just returned from the SA Dance Championship, competing in a category with more than 1 000 other participants. The pair won two gold medals and a silver medal in the hip hop, musical theatre and lyrical dance categories.
Achieving gold at this championship event is one of the highest honours that can be awarded to a performer of school-going age in this country, and the achievement is recognised internationally. They have been selected for the South African squad that will be performing in Los Angeles, California in the July holidays.
Both Keegan and Jenna will perform in the latest offering, ‘You Can’t Stop The Beat’ from Westville Boys’ High School from 12 to 21 May. Keegan is also co-choreographing.
This musical revue follows on from the smash-hit success of ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’ and hot on the heels of this year’s critically acclaimed school’s production of William Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth’.
Featuring a performing cast of 80, and more than 200 choristers from all of the local Westville schools, this slick Barnyard-style film and Broadway tribute show is guaranteed to astound you with performances from classic stage shows like ‘Footloose’, ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show’, ‘Cats’ and ‘Hairspray’, and powerful contemporary interpretations of modern Hollywood masterpieces like ‘Step Up’, ‘Pitch Perfect’ and Disney’s ‘Frozen’. Musically directed by Luke Holder and choreographed by Fiona Barnes, featuring choreography by award-winning matric pupil, Keegan Barnes, this is a show for the whole family and should not be missed.
Only the following nights are still available for booking: Tuesday, 12 and Wednesday, 13 May, and Monday, 18 to Wednesday, 20 May. All other shows are sold out already. For bookings contact the school on 031 267 1330 or e-mail tickets@wbhs.co.za.
