Man killed in Westville taxi accident

A MAN was killed and twelve people were injured when a taxi overturned along Spine Road in Westville last Friday.

Netcare 911’s Chris Botha said the taxi was going down Spine Road, and while rounding the bend to turn towards Westville prison the driver veered off the road and the taxi overturned.

“Paramedics and other services arrived at the scene and found the crumpled remains of the taxi down an embankment about twenty metres from the roadway.

“The driver absconded from the scene before our arrival,” he said.

Botha added that one man died on scene due to the extensive injuries.

“One passenger was seriously injured while eleven escaped with minor injuries,” said Botha.

The injured were all transported to hospital after they were stabilised.
