Man arrested for stealing braai stand, pots from Escombe home

Malvern SAPS were patrolling the Escombe area when they spotted a man carrying two fully-laden sacks on his head.

TWO Malvern SAPS officers arrested a man for housebreaking and recovered stolen goods while patrolling the Escombe area recently.

According to Warrant Officer Radhika Marimuthu, communications officer for the Malvern SAPS officers were patrolling the area when they spotted a man carrying two fully-laden sacks on his head.

“The members decided to stop and do a search. While going through the sacks they found a braai stand and an eight-piece stainless steel pot set. Both were in excellent condition and in their original boxes.

Upon questioning the man, he revealed that he had found the items lying in a bush. The members took him to the said road to point out where he found the goods.

On arrival, the man suddenly changed his story and pointed out a house near the bush where he had broken into the garage and stolen the items.

“The members proceeded to the house and alerted the owner, who had no idea that her garage had been broken into. She confirmed that the items belonged to her,” said Marimuthu.

A case of housebreaking was opened and is being investigated by the Malvern SAPS’s Housebreaking Unit.

Station Commander Lt Col Valarine Reddy commended the members on their excellent stop-and-search fieldwork, which yielded positive results.
