Police hunt for Malvern armed robbers

Police are looking for information that could lead to the arrest of an armed gang of robbers.

THE SAPS at Malvern police station have asked that anyone who might have information regarding the armed robbery that took place near Pick n Pay, Malvern, to come forward.

On Monday, 25 May, a local man was on his way to Standard Bank in Malvern to deposit a sum of R 50 000 when he realised that he had the incorrect account number.

He then went to the nearby Pick n Pay centre and while getting out of his car, three unknown men wearing balaclavas approached him and at gun point demanded the money.

The three men then snatched the money from the car’s cubby hole and as they were getting away, an SBV guard coming out of the mall, saw them and opened fire.

Nine rounds were fired. The men then got into a grey Hyundai Azera, stolen in the Durban area, and sped off . The car was later found crashed and abandoned on the M7 off ramp to Hans Dettmann Highway.

It was later established that the suspects had hijacked another man of his Opel Corsa at the same intersection. The Opel Corsa was recovered in the Mariannhill area.

A case of armed robbery has been registered and is being investigated. Anyone with information in this regard can call D/W/O Huyzer on 031-489 9629/489 9624 or CrimeStop on 0860010111.
