Police arrest cellphone snatcher

Pinetown robber denied bail in the Pinetown Magistrate's Court.

A 25-YEAR-old man appeared in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on Thursday for robbery.

According to Pinetown SAPS communications officer, Cst Phindile Radebe, the alleged robber was arrested at the corner of Josiah Gumede Road and Crompton Street in Pinetown.

“It is alleged that a complainant was driving along Crompton Street in Pinetown on Wednesday, 27 May at about 4.30pm.

“He was approached by a man who pulled out a knife and snatched a cellphone with a value of R6 000. The alleged robber then fled the scene on foot,” said Khuzwayo.

A Pinetown SAPS detective constable who was on duty spotted a suspicious man running along Crompton Street.

“He stopped and searched him. The man was still in possession of the cellphone that was stolen from the complainant and it was returned to the lawful owner,” she said.

He was denied bail and will appear in court on Monday, 8 June.
