Westville roads to be restored
The road surface from the Shell garage in Westville North to the Norfolk Road/Jan Hofmeyr Road intersection, including the two dangerous corners at the start of Rodger Sishi Road, will be rehabilitated.
AFTER various meetings and discussions, the rehabilitation of Rodger Sishi Road in Westville commenced on Wednesday, 17 June.
According to Ward 18 councillor, Bruce Sutcliffe, the original plan was for the section from Wellington to Marlowe to be restored, however, due to pressure being put on and a full investigation being undertaken of the road surface, the road rehabilitation section has now agreed to upgrade the road surface from the Shell garage in Westville North to the Norfolk Road/Jan Hofmeyr Road intersection with Rodger Sishi Road, including the two dangerous corners at the start of Rodger Sishi Road.
“The contract period will be from Wednesday, 17 June to approximately the end of September, and will necessitate stop-go controls on various sections of the road. I must therefore request that residents utilising the road assist the contractor with such, and allow for extra time for trips as there will be delays on the road,” added Sutcliffe.
The contract is for the removal and replacement of approximately 50mm of the road surface, with a minimal slip surface being laid due to the numerous sharp bends on the road. Sutcliffe said he had discussed the repair and upgrading on the pavements, et cetera with the municipality, and will be making this a priority as many people utilise these on a daily basis.
Regarding the Dawncliffe road rehabilitation, this has been put on hold due to the installation of a major water main to be installed under the road surface, and it is hoped that this will be completed in the second half of this year, thus allowing for the road rehabilitation to complete its work.
