5-year-old tragically drowns

A young boy drowned in a neighbour's pool.

A FIVE-YEAR-OLD boy tragically drowned in a residential pool in Bellair on Wednesday afternoon at around 4.30pm. Netcare 911 spokesperson, Chris Botha, said paramedics and their rescue team arrived at the scene and found that a neighbour had pulled out little Thato Lesotho from the pool and started CPR.

“The paramedics then took over with advanced life support resuscitation and placed him on a manual ventilator. Tragically, despite fervently working for an hour, he was declared dead at the scene,” said Botha.

The Bellair SAPS said Lesotho was playing at home before jumping over the fence into the neighbour’s yard around the pool area. However, details are still sketchy and the police are investigating the matter further. An inquest docket was opened and the case is pending the outcome of an autopsy.
