The Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Units in KwaZulu-Natal had a good story to tell for the month of July.

THE Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Units in KwaZulu-Natal have a profound reason to celebrate this Women’s Month

Following the results they achieved during their investigation of various sexually-related offences in KwaZulu-Natal last month. Detectives from the FCS Units have worked tirelessly to ensure that those who perpetrated crimes against women and children were brought to book.

According to SAPS Provincial spokesman, Colonel Jay Naicker, from 1 July to 31 July detectives arrested a total of 329 suspects for sexually-related offences. The crimes included kidnapping, assault, domestic violence, sexual assault, attempted murder, contravening of protection orders, abduction and rape cases in the province.

During the same period, 54 suspects were convicted in various courts in the province after they were found guilty of sexual offences. Six life sentences and a total of 556 years’ imprisonment were handed down by courts during the past month. Management of the FCS Units welcomed the maximum sentences that were handed down in most cases and appreciated the fact that justice was delivered to the victims of these crimes.
