Help Pinetown resident spread Christmas cheer to elderly

For nine years Bronwin Pitt has been adding sweetness at The Elders Voice. This year she's going for 400 hampers and she needs your help.

PINETOWN resident Bronwin Pitt is at it again and this year her mission is to collect 400 Christmas hampers for the elderly residents at The Elders Voice.

For nine years, Pitt has been spreading Christmas cheer by handing out Christmas hampers to the old age home residents, along with the dedicated carers who look after them.

At first, Pitt said it was her way of making Christmas a little brighter but it has become a special annual tradition that is close to her heart.

“Every year, the kindness and generosity of the community help make this project possible, and I am hoping that 2026 will be another wonderful year. This year, the goal is to bring Christmas cheer to 400 elderly people and carers.”

To make this happen, Pitt appeals to the public and local businesses for donations.

“Every contribution, no matter how big or small, will help me put together special Christmas hampers filled with little treats to bring smiles to faces and warmth to hearts. Christmas is a time for giving, sharing and remembering those who may otherwise feel forgotten.

“I would love to make the residents and carers of The Elders Voice feel extra special again this year and give them something to smile about this Christmas. Please help me make this ninth year the most special one yet,” she pleaded.

“Thank you to everyone who has supported this project over the years. Your generosity means more than words can say,” added Pitt.

My name is Sanelisiwe Tsinde, and I'm a mother of two boys and very family-oriented. Being a community journalist for years, I can proudly say I love writing about positive community news articles and giving a voice to the voiceless. Seeing people getting assistance warms my heart. Every day is a different challenge and a new learning opportunity. I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites. I could say I am a multimedia journalist, and working in a community newspaper is beneficial as we do not focus on one thing but we do a bit of everything.
