Walkers enjoy spring blooms at nature reserve
At this time of year, the grasslands at Springside Nature Reserve burst with a variety of bright and colourful flowers all of which made an insightful and exciting journey for the group of walkers.
THE Hillcrest Conservancy together with the Keep Hillcrest Beautiful Association (KHBA) hosted its annual spring walk at Springside Nature Reserve on Sunday, 25 October. At this time of year, the grasslands at the reserve burst with a variety of bright and colourful flowers, all of which made an insightful journey for the group of walkers.
Flower enthusiasts braced the first walk in the morning, which was led by Jocelyn Sutherland from Custodians of Rare and Endangered Wild Plants (CREW), who was assisted by Wilber Mahlamvu. The eager-to-learn group of walkers were taught about the scientific names of the plants in sight and the properties that some of them house.
After the walk, walkers enjoyed refreshments and snacks served by KHBA. The public is encouraged to visit Springside Nature Reserve this spring to spend some time to appreciate nature.
