Nicky lays her life bare in a book

Nicky Simpson hopes to assist people who have been abused through her experiences.

HAVING been sexually abused from a very young age, Kloof resident, Nicky Simpson, has written a book about her life to change people’s perspective about the ‘rape’ topic.

Nicky’s book, titled Nicky Laid Bare, talks about her growing up in a middle class home in East London with her granny, whom she looked up to as her mother, and gran’s husband, whom she refereed to as ‘dad’.

In the book, Nicky shares her horrific experiences of being sexually harassed from a very young age by her ‘dad’.

Because of this, Nicky ended up being a loner; the only thing she could trust was her stuffed rabbit, Bunny.

Nicky said the book is based on the foundation of how being sexually, mentally and physically abused has affected her life and how the desire to escape the anguish of the reality of the situation through drinking nearly killed her numerous times.

“Writing this book has been therapeutic and it has always been at the back of my mind to write about my life and motivate other people through my experiences.

“I want people to know that there is a better life, there is hope and people can change their lives for the better. I don’t want people to make the same mistakes that I made because I could not confide in anyone about my abuse – they can get help if they are open about the subject,” she said.

Nicky currently works as a waitress and writes music in her spare time.

Her future plan is to open an NPO – Nick Nack Pack – for abused children if her book is a success. Nicky’s book costs R251 and to order, visit www.igobooks.co.za and will be delivered free of charge around the Highway area.
