Pinetown Senior Primary celebrates 140 years of excellence
The Pinetown school says the 140th commemoration was a celebration of its history, people and the legacy the school continues to build.
PINETOWN Senior Primary School (PSPS) marked a remarkable milestone on August 28, celebrating 140 years of learning, growth and excellence with a day filled with laughter, games, excitement and plenty of school spirit.
Founded in 1886 as Pinetown Government School, the school has grown alongside the Pinetown community, with generations of learners and educators contributing to a legacy that continues to this day.
The 140th birthday celebration brought learners and staff together for a memorable day, with activities and entertainment creating an atmosphere of excitement across the school.
For teacher Sesethu Mfino, the celebration was a special opportunity to reflect on the significance of the milestone.

“The day was fantastic. Celebrating 140 years of Pinetown Senior Primary excellence was truly special, and it was wonderful to see the excitement and joy among our learners and staff. It was a celebration of our history, our people and the legacy we continue to build together,” said Mfino.
Reflecting on the celebration, school principal Nothando Tshika expressed her appreciation to everyone who contributed to making the milestone memorable.
“Reaching 140 years is a proud moment for Pinetown Senior Primary School. It gives us an opportunity to honour the generations of learners, educators and families who have shaped our school, while also looking ahead to the future. As we celebrate this milestone, we remain committed to building on our rich history and creating an environment where every learner has the opportunity to grow, learn and thrive,” said Tshika.
Special thanks were also extended to Build it Pinetown, SUPERSPAR Knowles, McCarthy Toyota Pinetown and Mentos for their generous support as well as Merrifield Media Group, the school’s official digital and media partners, for capturing the celebration and helping preserve the special memories as PSPS begins its next chapter.
