Bryce is an avid fisherman

BRYCE van der Merwe, a Grade 7 pupil at Winston Park Primary School, has been an avid outdoorsman since a young age and over time has taken more of an interest in bass fishing.

He enjoys fishing at Albert Falls Dam, Inanda Dam and Midmar Dam. Last year he became a member of the Inanda Bass Fishing Club and decided to try out for the KZN team. After four divisional competitions, Bryce proved his worth by catching the correct weight and size of fish.

Last month, Bryce competed against current KZN fishermen and he was selected as a member of the KZN team 2016. Bryce will now participate in the Junior Nationals at Albert Falls Dam at the end of March, where he will also be fishing for a place in the Junior Protea team.

Winston Park Primary School has chosen Byrce as its SPAR Star of the Month.
