Hillcrest woman robbed at knifepoint

She said the man accosted her to the safe with a knife to her neck.

A HILLCREST woman escaped with her life after a man broke into her house on Friday, 1 April.

According to the resident, she was at her home around 12.30pm when she was confronted by a man in her bedroom who was carrying a knife, taken from her kitchen.

The man demanded money and her jewellery and threatened to kill her if she did not cooperate. She said the man accosted her to the safe with a knife to her neck.

He commanded her to start her car after he loaded her camera gear and other belongings into the boot of her car. She said she took a crazy opportunity to fight him for the knife after he told her that she should drive him to the ATM.

She fought it off him and screamed her lungs out and he ran to the opposite direction through the bush. She said she was relieved when she met people who dropped everything to come to her aid after she jumped two high fences.

She thanked everyone who assisted her.

“I wish I could thank everyone in person. Thanks to Blue Security, SAPS and paramedics for their incredible response and assistance,” she added.

Hillcrest SAPS communications officer, Cst Ndumiso Manqele, confirmed the incident. “The alleged robber is still at large and police have opened a case of house robbery.”
