Love and adventure in high schools musical

This years' musical is titled, For Love and Revolution.

PINETOWN high schools will present their annual musical show from Monday, 9 to Sunday, 14 May, which will take place at Pinetown Boys’ High School.

This years’ musical is titled, For Love and Revolution, and will feature more than 40 cast members selected from Pinetown Boys’ High School and Pinetown Girls’ High School.

For Love and Revolution tells the story of Dambudzo, a daughter of a general in charge of a military dictatorship, who, on the eve of her wedding, is sent away for safety by her fiancé, Lt Gen Hlauphizwe, after an attack on their homestead.

Together with her most trusted ally and chamber lady, Thembeka, they take refuge in a convent.

Life, however, does not get any easier for Dambudzo as she meets a local boy, Fowabo, for whom she develops feelings. Adventure and danger bring this musical tale together, set against the backdrop of a social revolution.

Music video director, Quintin White, is at the helm of this year’s production together with Heather Dix, celebrating her 21st year of musical direction at these two schools.

Film and television scenic artist, Lovell Southey, returns to PBHS and is responsible for creating the stunning backdrop that the story plays off against.

Doors open at 6pm and the show starts at 7pm. Evening performances are R50. Friday and Saturday are picnic theatre performances and tickets are R65. Two matinée performances will take place on the Monday and Wednesday at R20. Secure parking is available.

For bookings or enquiries, contact PBHS on 031 701 5046.
