THE water that had been cut off in some areas of New Germany, Kloof and Wyebank still remains a mystery as residents were kept in the dark about what the real reason was that they were without water for days.
Residents were left speculating, others believing it was a burst pipe, while others thought it was because of the water restrictors and others saying it was water shedding.
In other areas, water was cut off last week Wednesday and in some communities, residents were without water from Saturday.
Some of the New Germany residents had to use wheelbarrows and rent vehicles to get water from a standpipe in Clermont.
“This is really not right, we had to queue here for more than an hour to get our turn. Water is an important resource, we need it to wash our clothes, cook food and we need to drink water to survive.
“Water tankers have been making the rounds but they were not enough as by the time they got to our areas they were empty, which is the reason we are queuing here for water.”
Other residents said they used lots of airtime calling the water department.
“No one is giving us any straight answers. The municipality should fill up the reservoirs and stop making excuses,” they said.
Another resident who was away on holiday said they had to extend their stay until the water department had sorted out the crisis.
Ward 21 councillor, Bongani Gumede, said he was aware that numerous areas had been without water.
“I made numerous calls to the eThekwini Munipality to try and fix the situation and water was restored on Monday midday,” he said.
