LIFE Westville Hospital went all-out to celebrate international Nurses’ Day at the hospital on Thursday, 12 May.
Nursing manager, Melody Jansen van Rensburg, said the day is celebrated on Florence Nightingale’s birthday each year in memory of the person who raised the stature of nursing and changed society’s approach to nursing.
“To mark the special occasion, Life Westville Hospital held a special breakfast for night staff that morning and two sessions of lunch for the day staff. My deputy manager, Pam Rowe, and I also conducted a meet-and-greet with all our nurses at the back door this morning and presented them with a chocolate,” said Jansen van Rensburg.
Her message to the 250 staff at the hospital was to remind them to reflect of the reasons they entered the profession as well as to reflect on what keeps them in this profession; for most nurses it is about caring and compassion.
“Today is all about gratitude for the contribution our staff makes to the hospital – for all the commitment and service to the healthcare industry as a whole.” said Jansen van Rensburg.
The nurses were treated to a welcome drink (fresh fruit juice), a scrumptious breakfast or lunch and enjoyed a short presentation on international Nurses’ Day, in the beautifully-decorated undercover parking lot at Life Westville Hospital.
