Man (21) arrested for Wyebank robbery

The man was charged with hijacking and attempted murder.

PINETOWN Trio Task Team police arrested a 21-year-old man for hijacking a delivery vehicle in Wyebank last month.

According to Pinetown SAPS communications officer, Lt Bongumusa Manqele, police received a tip-off about the whereabouts of the man. They proceeded to Emaphephetheni area, in Inanda where the man was arrested.

Manqele said it is alleged that on Wednesday, 27 April at approximately 9am, two men were delivering bread in Wyebank when they were accosted by three armed men.

“The driver was allegedly shot by one of the robbers and the two victims were both forced inside their delivery vehicle. The robbers took the vehicle and the victims were dropped off near the Umngeni River. Their cell phones and undisclosed amount of cash were stolen,” he said.
