WI group help create a warmer winter

The Women's Interests on Accutts WI donated a host of knitted goods to be distributed among the Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust's beneficiaries.

ON behalf of the beneficiaries of the Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust’s beneficiaries, Olivia Myeza, the CEO at HACT (second left), graciously accepted the generous donation of fingerless handwarmers from the Women’s Interest group of Accutts WI.

The Women’s Interest group has 43 members and began knitting up a storm since the first article was published for the handwarmer drive in January. “I saw the write-up in the paper and took it to the committee and they were all behind the project 100 per cent,” said Bernadine Hay, the secretary of the WI. “We could make four pairs of hand-warmers from one ball of wool and as our motto states, ‘For home and country’.”

The group of women donated 112 pairs of fingerless handwarmers, 30 beanies, four pairs of bedsocks as well as scraps of material for the centre’s craft department.
