Pensioners get pampered at Flame Lily
Christel Noble said the desire to start her social responsibility programme at Flame Lily came from observations she made at an old age home.
STAFF from Hair International salon in Escombe closed up shop on Tuesday, 7 June to pamper Flame Lily residents.
Fifteen women were treated to a morning of smiles and cheers while sipping on a cup of coffee and enjoying being beautified.
Owner of the salon, Christel Noble, said this first of many pampering sessions is part of her social responsibility. “This is my way of giving back to the community that was there for me when I started the salon three years ago. We will have these pampering sessions every two to three months where we will alternate between old age homes as well as children’s homes,” she explained.
She said the desire to start her social responsibility programme at Flame Lily came from observations she made at an old age home. “My dad was also a resident at an old age home in Wentworth. Every time I was there to cut his hair, I would notice that other residents also needed the same kind of attention. In some cases, you’d find that they did not even have the money to get a haircut,” said Noble.
Resident as well as chairwoman for the entertainment committee at Flame Lily, Gwen Bentley, said it was lovely to see the women being pampered. “It’s not every day that you get kind of chance. When Christel phoned us to say she was coming with her team we were happy. It is really lovely to see the ladies enjoying themselves,” she said.
PR councillor for Ward 65, Zamo Dladla, said his ward is fully behind Noble’s social work. “We 100 per cent support Christel. It is good to know that the elderly are not forgotten in our ward. I hope what she is doing today can be extended to others in future,” he said.
