Women officers tackle crime in Pinetown

Operation Basadi yield good results.

IN commemoration of Women’s Month, Pinetown SAPS women officers under the leadership of the station commander, Brigadier Bongi Sithole, took to the streets to warn people about crime in the Pinetown CBD.

Col Nancy Makhanya said this was part of the nationwide campaign, Operation Basadi.

“We spoke to the community about domestic violence, the dangers of drugs and we encouraged them to report all criminal activities to the police,” she said.

Makhanya said they yielded positive results as one person was arrested for possession of drugs.

“One man was arrested for possession of an unlicensed gun, one was found with counterfeit DVDs and four illegal immigrants were arrested,” said Makhanya.

They also conducted a roadblock in New Germany where 11 motorists were fined for road traffic offences.
