A MAN was in a critical condition when he was hit by a truck on St Johns Bridge in Pinetown, yesterday evening.

The man, who is believed to be in his 30s, was found lying in the rain on the road. According to Werner Vermaak, ER24’s spokesman, the man had multiple injuries which included several fractures.

“The man is well known to commuters in the area as he always stands at the corner with his crutches, asking for food and donations. According to bystanders on the scene, a truck was apparently turning and its side hit him before dragging him for a short distance while he was under the truck,” said Vermaak.

He was treated at the scene and rushed to a nearby hospital.
