Gangs of robbers hit businesses

In one of the incidents, a Hillcrest employee was followed from the bank and robbed in Kassier Road.

BUSINESS owners are urged to be vigilant following a spike in armed robberies at business premises across Durban over the past few days. Blue Security operations manager, Brian Jackson said gangs of armed robbers are targeting business premises in broad daylight.

In one incident, a Hillcrest employee was followed by robbers from the bank back to a business premises in Kassier Road in Hillcrest at around 10.20am on Monday.

“The gang, travelling in a white Jetta 4, held him up at gunpoint when he arrived at the delivery entrance of the business and robbed him of R 2 000. No injuries were reported,” he said. Hillcrest SAPS attended the scene of the crime.

In another incident, a gang of armed robbers held up staff at a business in Main Road, Northdene at around 1pm on Monday. “A gang of around seven armed robbers held up the business owner and staff and robbed them of cash and cellphones. The gang fled in a white Mitsubishi with no registration plates. No injuries were reported,” he said. Malvern SAPS attended the scene of the crime.

Another armed robbery was also reported in the Durban CBD on Monday. “Armed robbers held up a security guard at a business premises in Williams Road before 10pm on Monday night. Two armed robbers approached the security guard while he was in the guard house and robbed him of two cellphones and cash.” Umbilo SAPS attended the scene of the crime.
