JUST a few days after the Department of Transport and its agency gathered in Field’s Hill to pay tribute to the 24 people who were killed in a truck horror crash in 2013, another truck lost control and collided with three other vehicles, earlier today.

In today’s accident, 13 people were injured at the intersection of Richmond Road and Field’s Hill, the same spot where the horror crash happened in 2013.

Rescue Care’s Garrith Jamieson, said a truck had allegedly lost control while travelling down Field’s Hill towards Richmond Road and collided with a truck, a taxi and a bakkie.

“One person was entrapped and the Jaws of Life was used to free him from the carnage. He was removed from the vehicle in a stable condition with moderate injuries,” said Jamieson.

Twelve other people who travelling in three other vehicles sustained minor to moderate injuries.

“Rescue Care’s Advanced Life Paramedics were called to the scene to assist with the multiple casualties. All the patients were stabilised at the scene before being transported to nearby hospitals,” said Jamieson.

At this stage, it is alleged that the driver of the truck, who was transporting steel items lost control of the vehicle, however all the necessary authorities were on scene and will be investigating.
