Paramedics deliver baby boy in ambulance

Both mother and baby are recuperating at a hospital in Chatsworth.

NETCARE 911 paramedics responded to a call that a pregnant woman, who was walking on the railway lines in Shongweni, had gone into labour around 9.20am today.

According to Chris Botha, Netcare 911 spokesman, paramedics had to carry their equipment and walk along the railway line for some distance before they reached the distressed woman.

When they reached her they realised she was in the second stage of her labour, quickly immobilised her on a trauma board and with the assistance of bystanders carried her back to the ambulance.

“On the way to a Chatsworth hospital, paramedics had to stop when the woman began to deliver her baby. An overjoyed mom and paramedics delivered a healthy baby boy at 10.18am.”

“Both mom and her baby were then taken to hospital,” said Botha.
