Open new doors with counselling course

Space is limited and early bookings are essential.

THE Open Door Crisis Care Centre’s informative and beneficial lay counselling eight-week course starts on Saturday, 27 May and residents are encouraged to book their place early.

The course is a must for lay counsellors, neighbourhood watch volunteers, educators and community workers who are involved with men, women and children who face challenges in their homes or at school. It is also for those who wish to improve their own life skills and learn how to deal with conflict, work and social related problems.

“The course offers psychology students hands on training and is recommended by lecturers in the various universities and colleges and is aligned to SAQU standards,” said the Care Centre’s founder and director, Thora Mansfield.

The course teaches participants basic counselling skills, dealing with conflict, addressing social issues of rape, domestic violence, child abuse as well as training on the various Acts and Bills including Sexual Offences Act, Domestic Violence Bill, Children’s Act, and Trafficking in Persons Act. Mansfield said more than 10 000 men and women have undergone life changing experiences through the course.
