DA to lay charges after ANC attack on supporter at Durban march

The DA succeeded in interdicting KZN Mayor Gumede in the High Court yesterday for inciting violence.

THE Democratic Alliance will lay criminal charges against the ANC for incitement to violence and will open a case of assault and political intimidation for the assault on a member, Bob Lemon, at the Central Durban SAPS tomorrow morning.

According to a press statement released by DA KZN leader, Zwakele Mncwango, the charges will be laid at 10.30am at the Central Durban SAPS where the assaulted and injured activist will join DA KZN Leadership.

Lemon said he will also claim compensation.

Mncwango said the People’s March for Change in Durban today, against President Jacob Zuma, was an enormous success with more than 15 000 people coming out to support the call for Jacob Zuma to be fired.

“It is strongly condemned that after the march, a peaceful and unthreatening DA marcher was approached by a crowd of ANC thugs and was assaulted,” said Mncwango in the statement.

Yesterday the DA succeeded in interdicting Mayor Gumede in the High Court from inciting violence, but Mncwango said it appeared that her incitement had already spurred the ANC.

“The DA has also reliably learnt that the ANC pro-Zuma march in Durban today, in which the ANC assaulters participated, was not properly approved by the City. This must be investigated,” said Mncwango.
