Police, parent and school partnerships ensure children’s safety
Station commander, Lt-Col Valarine Reddy, emphasised the importance of using the school partnership and linking programme to the optimum.

If parents know that their children may possibly abscond from school and pursue other activities, the school must be visited and a meeting held with the teachers.
This is important so that in the event a learner does not attend school, the teacher can double check with the parent to ascertain whether that child is legitimately off from school.
This partnership between the school and the parent is crucial to monitor the child and bring him/her back on track.
If the parent knows the child has an addiction to harmful substances, the school must be informed so that he/she can be monitored.
The Victim Empowerment Centre at the local police station can be contacted for assistance in counselling and possible referrals to facilities that can assist in overcoming these addictions.
Where learners display dysfunctional behaviour at schools, educators must make use of the school linking programme with the local police station and together try and assist the learner.
Partnerships with the schools exist for this very purpose and the police can only assist if this is brought to their attention.
Parents should also monitor their children and should know where extra curricular activities and classes are being held.
If parents are not transporting their children to and from schools and extra-mural activities, they should know and have details of who their children are travelling with. This should actually be arranged by parents for their children.
Station commander, Lt-Col Valarine Reddy, emphasised the importance of using the school partnership and linking programme to the optimum.
